Treatment of Epilepsy in Adults

Epilepsy requires regular, long-term pharmacotherapy, and the indications should be considered carefully. Antiepileptics should be started as soon as the diagnosis has been made and the risk of recurrences has been established. Brain imaging is important after the first seizure already in order to identify processes that can be treated surgically. In early treatment, it is more important to monitor the patient's general status and mental health than laboratory values.
