SIT's evolutionary path mirrors the virtuous family capitalism that has driven Italy's social and economic growth from the second half of the 20th century to the present.
An extraordinary coincidence. SIT is founded in October 1953 by brothers Pierluigi and Giancarlo de' Stefani. This is the same year in which ENI, which will get the use of gas in the domestic and industrial sectors off the ground, and the Italian Gas Committee, which will deal with safety regulations for gas appliances, are born. SIT would soon become a leader precisely in consumption measurement devices and safety systems for gas appliances.
Entrepreneurship, management and family. From SIT's nearly 70-year history, some lessons of Italian-style family entrepreneurship are drawn that can be a model for many: managerialize management, have an effective governance system, plan for the entry of new generations, grow up, go public.
Vision, vision and more vision. In 2003, for SIT's 50th anniversary, Pierluigi de' Stefani uttered these words, "The day is approaching when people will say, do you remember when methane was burned in gas appliances to produce heat?" Three decades later, Federico de' Stefani, SIT's current leader, has given an original answer to that question and has reinterpreted the insight of the two founders in a contemporary key, projecting SIT among the protagonists of sustainable development. That's the beauty of entrepreneurial families.
