Archeologia del Mediterraneo

This volume brings together a wide range of interdisciplinary studies in honor of the renowned archaeologist Ernesto De Miro, whose long career as both a university professor and Superintendent shaped Sicilian archaeology. Rather than focusing on a single narrow topic, the collected contributions explore the broader cultural, economic, and historical dynamics of the ancient Mediterranean world, with particular emphasis on Magna Graecia, Sicily, and North Africa. The papers encompass diverse subfields, including urban planning, pottery typology, numismatics, epigraphy, and trade routes from the prehistoric through the Greco-Roman and Early Christian periods. Key themes address the complex interactions between Greek, Indigenous, and Punic populations, as well as the preservation and monumental layout of major archaeological sites such as Agrigento and Leptis Magna. Ultimately, the volume provides a comprehensive synthesis of Mediterranean antiquity, reflecting De Miro's holistic approach to using material culture as a vital tool for historical inquiry.
