La Serliana en el Imperio Romano

This monograph provides a comprehensive examination of the tripartite architectural motif known as the serliana, tracing its evolution from its Hellenistic and Ptolemaic origins through Late Antiquity. Moving beyond traditional Renaissance frameworks associated with Sebastiano Serlio and Palladio, the research integrates archaeological evidence with iconographic data from numismatics, glyptics, and relief sculpture. The author demonstrates how the combination of arched and trabeated systems served not merely as a formal ornamental choice, but as a crucial spatial instrument for imperial representation, sacred epiphanies, and the monumental manifestation of political authority across the Mediterranean provinces. By bridging the gap between archaeology and art history, the volume establishes a rigorous typological framework and offers fresh insights into the architectural language of power in the ancient world.
