L'Italia dei Flavi. Atti del Convegno, 4-5 ottobre 2012

This volume compiles proceedings from the 2012 international conference marking the two-thousandth anniversary of Emperor Vespasian's birth. Examining Flavian Italy as both the seat of the princeps and the strategic core of the Roman Empire, the essays explore the culmination of a centuries-long integration process that incorporated Italian communities and local elites into the central Roman power structure. Through interdisciplinary approaches encompassing legal history, archaeology, epigraphy, economics, and religion, the contributors address municipal administration, local administration, building programs, civic cults, agrarian growth, and economic relationships between Italy and the provinces. Ultimately, the collection highlights how the Flavian era consolidated imperial power by broadening its political and socio-economic base, leveraging peripheral resources to foster a unified Roman-Italian identity without relying solely on coercive colonial models.
