I frammenti Beazley dal Persephoneion di Locri Epizefiri. Una ricostruzione iconografica

Focusing on the black- and red-figure Attic ceramics recovered from the votive deposit of Mannella in Locri Epizefiri, this monograph presents the comprehensive publication of approximately 200 ceramic vessels and fragments compiled by Sir John Beazley and C.H.E. Haspels. Excavated by Paolo Orsi in the early twentieth century and reunited with fragments from the Candida collection, the assemblage undergoes a meticulous iconographic analysis to reconstruct both mythical narratives and everyday scenes in their entirety. By examining over 1,500 studied items alongside the broader corpora of individual vase painters, the research provides crucial insights into the precise characteristics of Attic imports to Locri during the sixth and fifth centuries BC. Furthermore, rigorous exegetical work clarifies ambiguous representations previously categorized as unexplained subjects. Ultimately, this volume establishes a fundamental framework for contextualizing Athenian ceramic production and its iconography within the ritual and cultic framework of the Persephoneion.
