Ricerche e scoperte a Pompei

Spanning recent multidisciplinary campaigns led by the Archaeological Park of Pompeii in collaboration with international institutions, this volume presents crucial data redefining the urban, religious, and socio-economic history of pre-Roman and Imperial Pompeii. Dedicated to the memory of archaeologist Enzo Lippolis, the collected studies re-evaluate major urban sanctuaries, including those of Apollo, Venus, and the Triangular Forum, while offering stratigraphical insights into ancient roadways, archaic domestic structures, and civic fortifications. Special analytical focus is devoted to the unprecedented discovery of a monumental 1st-century AD tomb outside the Stabian Gate. Its exceptionally long inscription prompts cross-disciplinary research from epigraphers, historians, and legal scholars regarding evergetism, public games (muna), and the socio-political career of the Pompeian elite—specifically Cn. Alleius Nigidius Maius. By integrating bioarchaeological, geoarchaeological, and field data, this work underscores Pompeii's dynamic evolution and enduring potential for archaeological inquiry.
