Mario Lombardo Habrosynai

Brought together in this collection are sixteen essential scholarly contributions by Mario Lombardo, spanning his extensive research on the history, economy, society, and institutions of the ancient Greek world, with a primary focus on Archaic Greece and Western Greece (Magna Graecia). Curated as a testament to his profound influence on historiography, the essays navigate a rich methodological spectrum that bridges traditional textual criticism with numismatic, epigraphic, and archaeological evidence. Key historical dynamics are critically examined throughout the collection, including colonial processes, economic exchange, commensal practices, and ethnic identity formation. Special emphasis is placed on the evolution of monetary systems and the complex socio-political significance of coinage, moving beyond simplistic evolutionist paradigms. By integrating rigorous source analysis with anthropological insights, Lombardo illuminates the structural transformations of the polis, offering enduring perspectives on ancient Mediterranean mobility, civic organization, and cultural interaction.
