Giacomo Boni nella memoria del Novecento

Centered on the legacy of Giacomo Boni (1859–1925), a pivotal architect-archaeologist who revolutionized the spatial and conceptual landscape of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, this commemorative volume re-evaluates his profound contribution to Italian and European cultural history. Marking the centenary of his passing, the work compiles fifty-eight critical and biographical texts authored by contemporary intellectuals, artists, and scholars between 1900 and 1976. Rather than confining Boni strictly to his technical achievements in stratigraphy and monuments preservation, these collected perspectives illuminate his multifaceted identity as a visionary "monumental gardener," symbolist, and cultural ideologue. Through contemporary accounts, the text traces Boni's holistic methodology, which seamlessly blended rigorous empirical science, environmental ethics, and a romanticized national revival. Ultimately, the volume offers a refined historiographical frame, positioning Boni as a key bridge between nineteenth-century antiquarianism and twentieth-century heritage preservation.
