Roma città di ville e di giardini: nella profusione di palazzi, musei, monumenti e resti antichi, non si percepisce a prima vista ciò che, spesso, è nascosto alla vista. Solo dopo aver varcato portali monumentali, si scopre il fascino di giardini con pregevoli edifici e scenografiche fontane. Questa mostra ci permette di comprendere quanto ricco e magnifico sia questo patrimonio che, nonostante i danni sofferti nel tempo, ancora costituisce un aspetto rilevante nella storia di Roma. Ci offre una "passeggiata" tra quasi 190 opere - dipinti, stampe, libri, modelli - che attraversa i secoli dal Cinquecento al Novecento, mostrandoci ricchezza e varietà di tipologie conseguenza del mutare del gusto e degli scenari politici e sociali. Le opere, spesso inedite, provengono dai maggiori musei europei ed italiani e da molte collezioni private, sono integrate da installazioni multimediali ed interattive. La mostra è curata da esperti del settore ed è corredata da un ricco catalogo con testi di studiosi italiani e stranieri che aprono nuove prospettive su questo patrimonio, con più di una sorpresa. Only after passing through monumental gateways you can discover the charm of gardens with exquisite buildings and spectacular fountains. This exhibition allows us to understand how rich and magnificent this heritage is, which, despite the damage suffered over time, still constitutes a significant aspect of Rome history. It offers us a "stroll" through almost 190 works - paintings, prints, books, models - spanning the centuries from the 16th to the 20th century, showing us the richness and variety of types resulting from changing tastes and political and social scenarios. The works, often unpublished, come from major European and Italian museums and many private collections, and are complemented by multimedia and interactive installations. The exhibition is curated by experts in the field and is accompanied by a rich catalogue with texts by Italian and foreign scholars who open up new perspectives on this heritage, with more than one surprise.
