Fonti letterarie greche e latine per la storia della Lucania tirrenica

This volume presents a systematic collection of ancient Greek and Latin literary sources pertinent to the history and topography of Tyrrhenian Lucania, spanning from the period of Greek colonization to the early Middle Ages. Arranged alphabetically by ancient author, the work offers critical transcriptions along with contextual excerpts and commentary addressing textual and historical issues. Expanding beyond the central coastal strip between the Sele and Lao rivers to encompass adjacent regions such as Picenum, the compilation gathers evidence on key settlements including Poseidonia-Paestum, Elea-Velia, and Pyxous-Buxentum. The text incorporates direct and indirect attestations, historical legends, and localized terminology, while purposefully omitting specialized philosophical fragments accessible in standard pre-Socratic editions. Supported by an extensive analytical index structured around thematic headings and phrase-based entries, the collection provides an accessible tool for cross-referencing Classical references, evaluating historical historiography, and opening up prospective avenues for regional and interdisciplinary research.
